This Khilji period structure dates back to 1316. Negotiating that labyrinth, I came across the Topkhana Mosque. But the drive to towards the hill was through the heart of the town, the lanes of which became increasingly narrow and congested. Locals pointed out the location of the fort as being perched on a hill called Songiri, which seemed part of a small sierra walling off the town from the neighbouring countryside. The headquarters of a district of the same name, Jalore lies on the banks of the mostly-dry (and some would say, aptly named) Sukri River. It took a few hours more to reach Jalore and an initial casual look round confirmed it to be an overgrown small town. I started from Jodhpur and instead of going directly to my destination, I used a slightly circuitous route to reach there, checking out another intriguing fort at Siwana in Barmer district. One thing led to another and before long, I was on the road to Jalore. What intrigued me was the fact that such an obscure town had excited the interest of rulers such as Iltutmish and Ala-ud-din Khilji, both of whom had attacked Jalore. The place today is little more than a forgotten town, well off the tourist map. Apart from having one of the strongest forts of the kingdom of Marwar itself, it also lay on the road to Gujarat, acting as the first line of defence against armies marching to that prosperous land. Jalore's name had come up repeatedly when I began studying the history of the Marwar region of Rajasthan. The ancient fort of Jalore is a bit like that, obscured by the overbearing pressure of illustrious neighbours such like Jodhpur and Jaisalmer to the west and Kumbhalgarh to the east. Patience in separating the pages is sometimes rewarded with some worthwhile information on that hidden inside page. Lastly, when you have extra building slots in your forts, hospitals are really helpful as you start stacking a bunch of them up. I was able to keep building a stronger army that way. I also only used one general / army for everything, and reloaded if I ever took losses. Late game your spells are powerful enough to just 1 click thanos snap the entire enemy army for like 14 energy, and before that careful use of spells / archers / melee blocking will help you succeed. Even shieldbearers are fine, you don't care if they deal damage they just need to block off your archers / take damage.
Otherwise, I made sure to always have the largest stack of ranged units possible and everything else functioned purely as a meatshield. I took the red haired spellcaster general, and focused on her power stat whenever possible. My experience with crusade has been that it's not entirely balanced, and the worst offenders are ranged units and spells.
